This preference isn't new. The A321neo has been the more popular choice for several years, exceeding A320neo production in both 2022 and 2023.

Orders Reflect Market Demand

Looking beyond deliveries, order numbers solidify the A321neo's lead. As of May 2024, Airbus recorded a mere 10 net new orders for the A320neo (accounting for cancellations). In contrast, the A321neo saw over 140 net orders, with significant contributions from American Airlines, Saudia, and Nordic Aviation Capital.

The A321neo's popularity is further amplified by the success of the A321XLR variant. This extended-range version boasts impressive range capabilities, making it attractive for airlines looking to expand their reach on long, thin routes. Airbus has over 550 orders for the A321XLR, with first deliveries slated for later this year.
