SIA Group Selects Neste as Supplier for Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Changi Airport

Singapore's SIA Group partners with Neste for 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) delivery to Changi Airport, marking Neste's debut in Singapore's aviation sector. This move supports Singapore's goal to reach 3-5% SAF utilization by 2030, aligning with global aviation sustainability objectives.

Singapore joined the rest of the world's aviation sector in February when it said that starting in 2026, all aircraft leaving the nation will have to utilise SAF. According to the strategy, the nation intends to increase its SAF objective from 1% in 2026 to 3-5% by 2030.

On May 6, Neste, a Finland-based company, received a request from Singapore Airlines Group (SIA) to supply 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This transaction marks the inaugural provision of such fuel by Neste's refinery in Singapore to aircraft at Changi Airport. According to Neste's announcement on Monday, the agreement entails blending SAF, derived entirely from renewable waste and residual raw materials, with traditional aviation fuel. The resulting blend will then be transported to Changi Airport's fuel hydrant system during the second and fourth quarters of 2024.

The biggest plant in the world for producing jet fuel from trash, Neste's refinery in Singapore can produce up to one million metric tonnes of SAF annually. According to Lee Wen Fen, the airline's chief sustainability officer, "this agreement with Neste is an important milestone in the SIA Group's journey to have a minimum of 5% sustainable aviation fuel in our total fuel uplift by 2030."
