Thales Group, a prominent French firm specializing in aerospace, defence, and cybersecurity, is in the process of establishing an avionics Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) facility in Gurgaon, slated for completion by March of the following year. Thales emphasizes that avionics MRO facilities can be strategically established away from airport premises, as they do not necessitate direct access to runways.
The multinational corporation intends to increase its engineering workforce in India twofold within the next two years to cater to the rising demand for cybersecurity and aviation solutions in the export market.
According to Pascale Sourisse, Senior Executive Vice President of International Development at Thales and CEO of Thales International, the company is striving to obtain MRO certification by the year's end, with operations anticipated to kick off in the initial quarter of 2025. Thales emphasizes that avionics MRO facilities can be situated away from airports as they don't necessitate runway access. The company elaborates that the MRO will specialize in the maintenance of avionics systems, which will be disassembled from aircraft and transported to the MRO for necessary repairs. Following repairs, the equipment will be reinstalled onto the aircraft.
“The proposed avionics MRO facility is poised to provide a comprehensive suite of services, capitalizing on Thales's extensive and esteemed expertise in avionics system provisioning, maintenance, and enhancement," Pascale elaborates. These services will play a pivotal role in assisting Indian airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, among others, in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of avionics across their fleet.
"Thales is committing multi-million Euros towards establishing an MRO facility in Gurgaon, India, with the aim of delivering top-tier service efficiency to its airline clientele," Pascale clarifies.
"The company intends to leverage India as a strategic hub for serving global markets in both cybersecurity and aviation, foreseeing a surge in global demand within these sectors," Pascale further explains. "In the realms of avionics and cybersecurity, the majority of India's activities are geared towards the global market. We offer an array of cybersecurity solutions, encompassing hardware security modules, financial transaction technology, and cloud-based data security solutions. With a projected increase in market demand, we envisage our Indian team assuming a pivotal role in our operations.
