The H145M helicopter represents a versatile multi-purpose platform engineered to operate efficiently in diurnal and nocturnal settings under challenging environmental conditions. Powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2E turboshaft engines renowned for their high performance, the aircraft benefits from a digital electronic engine control (FADEC) system, optimizing operational efficiency. Performance-wise, the H145M boasts a maximum cruising speed of 241 km/h and a maximum take-off load capacity of 3,800 kg. With its standard fuel tank, the helicopter exhibits a range of up to 637 km and a flight endurance of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Its substantial payload capacity of 1,893 kg enables the carriage of either 2 pilots and 10 passengers or an external load of 1,600 kg. Each of its two turboshaft engines, rated at 667 kW, can deliver emergency power of 800 kW in case of engine failure, thereby ensuring crew safety. With a usable fuel capacity of 723 kg, the H145M possesses significant operational range suitable for a diverse array of missions, ranging from tactical transport to medical evacuation endeavours. Moreover, its modular design facilitates swift adaptation to varying configurations in accordance with operational exigencies, rendering it an indispensable and dependable asset for deployment within armed forces and security apparatuses.

Apart from the procurement of the aircraft itself, the agreement encompasses provisions for pilot and technician training, logistical assistance spanning a period of 5 years, and the acquisition of spare parts. Initial deliveries are anticipated to occur prior to the conclusion of 2027.

The procurement, valued at an undisclosed sum, was directed through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). Its primary objective is to enhance and broaden the aerial capacities of the Belgian Defence and National Police forces. According to Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder, this acquisition reinforces the nation's European affiliations. The utilization of H145M helicopters by neighbouring nations such as Germany and Luxembourg facilitates collaborative endeavors in areas including training, maintenance, and crew instruction.

‘As set out in my STAR plan, we are investing in our capabilities to ensure the operational readiness of our Land Component now and in the future,’ she said.

The recently acquired aircraft will be deployed for missions involving medical evacuation and tactical troop transport. Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden expressed approval of the procurement of two extra helicopters for the Belgian Federal Police, emphasizing their role in augmenting airborne capabilities critical for providing support to ground teams during search, surveillance, and intervention operations.
