Lufthansa, which experienced one of its most successful financial years in 2023, has faced challenges including employee strikes and delays in Boeing deliveries. Spohr acknowledged the significant financial impact of these delays, stating, "This is extremely annoying and costs us a lot, a lot of money." However, he remained optimistic about Boeing's ability to overcome these challenges, asserting, "I am sure that Boeing will get the problems under control."

Highlighting Lufthansa's confidence in Boeing's safety standards, Spohr affirmed that every Boeing aircraft ordered by the airline is closely monitored by its engineers during the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Despite the emergence of Chinese aircraft manufacturer COMAC and its offerings, including the ARJ21 and C919 models, Spohr dismissed the possibility of Lufthansa acquiring Chinese aircraft in the near future. He cited Lufthansa's stringent safety standards as the reason for this decision, stating, "Given the safety standards that we set at the Lufthansa Group, I don't think that's realistic for the next few years."

Addressing the financial impact of recent employee strikes, Spohr revealed that the strikes had cost the company approximately half a billion Euros. While Spohr advocated for the right to strike, he emphasized the importance of maintaining essential services, such as airport security checks, during strikes. Additionally, he clarified that strike costs are allocated to the respective airline within the Lufthansa Group to prevent employees of other airlines from being disadvantaged.

Despite the challenges posed by Boeing delays and employee strikes, Lufthansa remains committed to supporting Boeing's recovery efforts while upholding its stringent safety standards and operational integrity.
