Passengers reported a rapid disembarkation using airstairs, with the plane taxiing to a designated area for the procedure. Thankfully, everyone on board disembarked safely.

What Happened?

Reports indicate the threat was received via email shortly before 9:30 pm local time. Acting swiftly, airport staff alerted authorities and initiated emergency protocols. The pilots, upon receiving the news, squawked 7700, the universal air traffic control code for a general emergency. This prompted air traffic control to cancel take-off clearance and guide the Boeing 777 carrying BA158 to a safe location for evacuation.

Evacuation and Investigation

Passengers were quickly disembarked using airstairs from the forward left-hand door. Thankfully, the evacuation process went smoothly. Meanwhile, the Bermuda Police Service secured the area and conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and surrounding areas. Thankfully, the search yielded no signs of explosives, and the authorities declared the airport safe after some time.

Flight Cancellation and Aftermath

Unfortunately, due to the late hour and crew limitations, the flight was ultimately cancelled. Passengers stranded due to the incident were likely re-accommodated on other flights.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of bomb threats, even if they turn out to be hoaxes. Thankfully, the swift actions of the crew, airport staff, and authorities ensured the safety of everyone involved.

Current Situation (as of May 6th, 2024)

British Airways has likely issued a statement regarding the incident and the aircraft remained still grounded.
