On January 17, 2025, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight narrowly averted disaster when it landed on the wrong runway at Lahore Airport. Flight PK-150, originally scheduled from Dammam to Multan, was diverted to Lahore due to heavy fog and poor visibility in Multan.

However, upon arrival in Lahore, the pilot made a critical error by landing on runway 36L instead of the designated main runway. To compound the situation, the runway lights on 36L were switched off at the time of the landing, significantly increasing the risk.

The PIA administration responded swiftly to the incident, grounding both the captain and the first officer involved. An investigation was immediately launched to determine the cause of the error and ensure such a dangerous event does not occur again.

Landing on the wrong runway is a grave aviation incident, as it can lead to collisions with other aircraft, ground vehicles, or obstacles. The fact that the runway lights were off further exacerbated the danger.

This incident highlights the importance of stringent safety protocols and vigilant adherence to procedures in aviation. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of human error and the need for continuous improvement in aviation safety practices.
