Japan Airlines Flights Disrupted by Cyberattack

Japan Airlines (JAL) has reported a cyberattack that has caused delays to domestic and international flights. The airline said it has identified and addressed the cause of the issue, but it is still checking the status of system recovery. In the meantime, JAL has suspended sales for both domestic and international flights departing on Thursday.

The cyberattack began at 7:24 a.m. local time (2224 GMT Wednesday). JAL said in a statement that it temporarily shut down a router that was causing the disruption. The airline said it is working to restore its systems as quickly as possible.

JAL has not said what caused the cyberattack or who is responsible. However, the airline said it is working with law enforcement to investigate the incident.

This is the second time in two years that JAL has been hit by a cyberattack. In 2022, the airline was forced to cancel more than 300 flights after a cyberattack disrupted its computer systems.

JAL is not the only Japanese company to have been hit by a cyberattack in recent years. In 2022, a cyberattack forced a Toyota supplier to halt operations at domestic plants for a day. And in June of this year, the video-sharing website Niconico suspended its services due to a cyberattack.

Cyberattacks are becoming increasingly common, and they can have a significant impact on businesses and individuals. It is important to take steps to protect yourself from cyberattacks, such as using strong passwords and keeping your software up to date.

If you are traveling with JAL, you can check the status of your flight on the airline's website or app. You can also contact JAL customer service for more information.
