The Indian aviation sector is experiencing a boom, and at the forefront is Indian Airlines. To cater to the growing demand for air travel, the airlines have been placing strategic aircraft orders in the last 15 months. Let's take a closer look at these recent acquisitions,

  • Upon segregating the aircraft orders for deeper insights, it revealed majority share of the orders is bagged by Airbus with 68% share while leaving its American rival with only 32% share.
  • In these orders for no surprise majority portion of the orders were Narrow bodies with Air India Group bagging 400 (210 Airbus & 190 Boeing), Indigo  bagging 500 Airbus aircraft and Akasa bagging  150 Boeing jets. On other hand Wide body aircrafts constitute up to 100 aircrafts with Air India having 70 jets (40 Airbus & 30 Boeing), while Indigo having 30 Airbus wide bodied jets. 
  • There is slight juggling with the Engine Manufacturer breakdown since Indigo still in the verge of finalising whether to go for Pratt & Whitney or CFM Leap 1A for its massive 500 aircraft order.
  • While for the rest of 650 Aircraft orders breakdown is as follows with CFM bagging huge 85% share for Air India and Akasa's narrow body jets, Rolls Royce bagging 11% share of Air India & Indigo's A350's and GE bagging 5% share for Air India's B777's & B787's.
